Swimming with Pigs - Bahamas

This little piggy went swimming!

Day trippin' on Grand Bahama Island!

Hey travel fam, we're back to share a quick day trip we took to Grand Bahama Island at the beginning of summer. One of the many perks of living in South Florida is being 1-2 hours away from most Caribbean islands. This makes for amazing long weekends without having to use up all of our vacation time. Air fare is usually very reasonable too. Even if you don't live in the area but are planning on vacationing in Miami this would be a great addition to your trip. It's a unique and exciting adventure that we would highly recommend. We booked our trip through the One Day Cruise travel agency. It was a very easy booking experience and we had all of the information we needed before the day of our trip. Check out the website for details on the one day trips to the Bahamas. You will have to email/call to get more information on the "Swimming with Pigs" excursion.

Ferry ride to Freeport

We arrived at 5:45 am at Port Everglades, Ft. Lauderdale to board our ferry. It was a comfortable ride with a concession stand on board serving food and cocktails the entire ride. When we arrived at Freeport a tour bus came to pick us up and took us to our first adventure... Swimming with Pigs!!! I was super excited since I had only seen this adventure on other YouTube travel channels. I wanted to experience it for myself and Matt is an animal lover so you know he was excited as well. We were not disappointed.... it was a funny thing watching pigs swim but it was also very very cool. We got to feed them apples on a stick and although the excursion wasn't very long we definitely had a blast!

We named him Piggy ;)

Crystal Beach

There are over 365 islands that make up the Bahamas. The beach we were on for the day was called Crystal beach which is located on Grand Bahama island. This is the closest island to the States which is only about 80 miles from the coast of Florida. The water was soooo clear and blue and sparkled as the sun shined. After swimming with pigs you could relax on the beach loungers or grab a bite to eat at the restaurant serving food and refreshments. We had the chance to relax and get a few photos while we waited for our tour bus to pick us up and take us to our next stop... Port Lucaya.

Port Lucaya...

This Port is known as the largest marketplace for shopping, dining, and entertainment in the Bahamas. There are over forty specialty stores and boutiques, sixteen restaurants, and four bars/lounge for late night entertainment. I wish we could've spent more time exploring the port but we only stopped for dinner before heading back to the ferry for our evening cruise back home. While in the Port Lucaya marketplace we ate at Pisces Restaurant which was known for their delicious seafood pizzas. We also couldn't leave the island without grabbing a few conch fritters, the Bahamian national dish which is also very delish!

After an early dinner we walked around the port just taking in all of the colorful art and shops nearby. We loved that this was a quick day trip but also liked the idea of staying a bit longer to explore more. The travel agency we booked with did offer very reasonable 1-4 night stays that you could customize if a day trip isn't long enough for you. Contact them for more details on travel packages.
