Warning: This post may contain a lot of lovey dovey ooey gooey stuff!
It's not Valentines Day just yet but it's right around the corner! 🥰 We're super excited to share this post with you because there's always a reason to celebrate the one's we love. That's why we recently created the "10 things I Love About You" challenge to encourage couples that have been dating for a while to write a simple list that will remind you why you looooove you're significant other so much. We know.. we know.. it's super soft but hear us out...
According to marraige.com, one of the top 3 reasons most relationships fail is due to lack of communication (infidelity and finances are the other two). We just celebrated our four year anniversary in September. Whoohoo! Statistically we're doing great but it's mostly because we understood that even after the honeymoon is over there's no reason why the romance and "ooey gooey" stuff has to end. Some people say that relationships are "hard work" but in our opinion the work to maintain a good relationship isn't hard, it just takes consistency.
It's easy to become comfortable and aloof once you have been in a relationship for a while but that's why its important to stay consistent in the things that made you fall in love with that person in the first place. It doesn't have to be big stuff, the little things go a long way like: sending a "thinking about you" text, watching a chick flick, making dinner together, having a cuddle and convo session, sitting quietly with each other and listening to good music, going on a spontaneous mid-week date, etc. The list goes on... and it may be different for each couple. Whatever those things are that made you fall for that person, just keep doing it to remind each other that the love is still lit 🔥.
Matt and I both try to show appreciation and gratitude for each other often. Communication is key, whether you verbally tell them you love and appreciate them or you show them in action. If you love em' don't waste time... tell them! Don't let a day go by without communicating that. If you keep that flame lit you'll never have to relight it.. ya feel me??
The objective of this activity is to create some time maybe in the evening or over the weekend to sit with each other and engage in focused dialogue with one another about how you feel towards your partner. Turn off your phones turn off your TV and make a point to take time and really think about what you love about them before you write your list out.
Then share the 10 things you absolutely adore about your significant other. You might find out things you didn't even know before and it may spark even more dialogue about "why" you love this particular thing about them.
Get creative with it. Take your time.... The thing about long term relationships is that it's a marathon not a sprint so be sure to incorporate this activity ever so often as you journey through life together.
Soooo without further ado Matt and I thought it would be great to share our lists with you all just to give you an idea of the "10 things I love about you" challenge ...
